Its mystery inked by the Mughal great Shah Jahan, with mayhem brought by its million customers, Chandni Chowk is the one of oldest, busiest and most famous shopping markets in Delhi. Breathing fire at most times in the year and incessantly congested with traffic, this shopping strip is magical at its best and severely resourceful at its worst.

Heaving with dusty shops stacked next to each other, of sparkly saris and shoes, yellowed books, presumably authentic electronic products, and jaunty leather goods, Chandni Chowk can never fail to deliver to any need. With that, it is also one of the supreme food destinations in the city;it is where the very first, the original Haldiram’s came into existence and subsequent prominence.

Since Old Delhi is littered with faint glimmers of lost and fallen empires, its markets sport some of the oldest, greatest and most infamous confectioners of all time. In Chandni Chowk itself, you will find the 230 year old ‘Ghantewala Halwai’, the 80 year old ‘Natraj’s Dahi Bhalla’, or the renowned 150 year old ‘Dalbijwallah’.

Though thistrace of Mughal imperialism has prudently urbanised into an over-crowded, over-polluted, crammed whole-sale market, ChandniChowk was once the grandest bazaar in all of India. Given that too, this place has retained its historical charm, the smell of simmering cultural grandeur, and daunting religious harmony.
